I can't believe that today was the last day of ICAD (Index Card A Day)! It also means that summer vacation is almost over. Yikes! It's gone by so fast! Since the last time I posted I have done 13 more cards! I don't want to bombard you with them all in one post! I will post a few now and then hopefully some more tomorrow. There are some questions that Tammy posted about so I thought I would incorporate those with the posts.
QUESTION #1 HAVE YOU TRIED NEW TECHNIQUES, THEMES, MEDIUMS, MATERIALS, PALETTES, PENS? I have been able to try a few new techniques on these cards. I'm excited to look back at them for referance. I did follow along for several days with creating patterns and was able to work with a few new mediums. As I went along I kept notes on the back of my cards so I can refer back to them.
QUESTION #2 DO YOU LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CREATIVE TIME EVERYDAY? I actually started creating everyday about a month before the ICAD stated. So by the time it did I was in the habit. I atually love taking even just 5 min if that's all I have! Some days I have several hours to create and play and other times it came down to the few minutes before I was heading to bed. Those nights I kept it simple, but was happy after I did it! Creating is a part of me as a person so having it part of my days does wonders for me! It's like putting gas in car! It feeds my soul!
QUESTION #4 WHAT DID YOU CHANGE ABOUT YOUR SCHEDULE TO ALLOW TIME FOR ART? I don't think I changed much about my schedule. In the begining I tried to do it every morning before anything else. Sometimes that did't work so I just squeezed it in when I could. I think I've made more time to have the "creative play time" though!
QUESTION #5 HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SKIPPED A DAY? I think through the whole process I've only missed 3 or 4 days. I think I didn't notice it the day I missed it. It was the next day that I would notice it. I just felt like I didn't finish something. I missed out on my play time. I would usually make up for it the next day or so with extra creative time!
QUESTION #6 WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO MAKE AN EXTRA CARD? The days when I had extra time or took extra time it was fun to just continue on with creating. Usually after making a card I have ideas for another and another. If I pulled my paints out it was fun to work on several at once. This also gave them time to dry in between layers. The days I did extra cards though I added the extras to my Project 365 pile. So I keep those seperate.
QUESTION #7 DO YOU CARRY ART MATRIALS IN YOUR BACKPACK OR PURSE FOR THOSE LITTLE GAPS IN YOUR DAY? I do usually have a pen and sketch pad in my purse just in case I get an idea or something I have a place to put it. I didn't carry any index cards around with me. I just kept some on my kitchen table next to some markers and colored pencils. I had another stack on a desk upstairs where my paint and other supplies are kept. So depending on how much time I had to play or where I was would depend on what I grabbed.
QUESTION #8 HAVE YOUR CREATIVE IDEAS BLOOMED OR FADED? I did find that there were some days when I had to dig deep for inspiration or didn't feel like I had any mojo! For the most part I find that if I'm creating on a regular basis that I am more creative and can keep going. I also found so much creative inspiration from the other people that shared their work via flickr or facebook!
QUESTION #9 ARE THERE ANY TECHNIQUES OR CARDS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CREATE IN A LARGER FORMAT? There are a few different things I want to try on a larger scale. There are also many things I want to try again in my art journal. I love that about creating. I think it's like anything else. The more you do it the easier or more natural it becomes. That doesn't mean you won't hit bumps in the road, but I really think it helps!
QUESTION #10 WHAT DID YOU LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF? Oh this is a good question! I could proably make a whole post on just this question alone, but I will try and keep it simple. Before I started this I was pondering if I had a style to my work and what was it. I really couldn't answer that question for myself. I knew what I liked when I saw others art work, but I didn't realy feel like I had my own style. That has completely change for me. I'm not sure if I had a soliid style, but I now can see it when I look through my cards. This is so exciting! I've learned to let go in the process. I don't need to have an idea of what I'm going to do before I start. I can just play and let go and enjoy process of just creating to create! I've found that I can be so much more lose in my work. I think creating on a little 4x6 card that might cost a penny makes it easier to let go. I'm okay with creating and maybe not liking the end result of each and every card! I've found that I even though the card may not be a favorite that I still learn things from the card and usually I can find at least one thing I like about each card! I've found I'm a happier person when I'm creating, which makes for a happy home!
Well for some reason typepad isn't wanting to load my other photos. I will try and post more tomorrow and finish up the questions. If you want to see all the cards in one place you can find them at flickr in my ICAD and more in my Project 365 group.
